About

My name is Josh and welcome to joshacoustic.com, a website to showcase my various musical projects. I’m based in the Manchester area, and have been playing music for the best part of 10 years.

I started off as a solo acoustic musician back in 2008, cutting my teeth at The Castle Open Mic on Oldham Street in Manchester. I met some wonderful people around that time, some of which are still friends to this day. I then branched out and began playing gigs around the rest of Manchester at first, then other cities in the UK, before booking a DIY tour of Europe in the summer of 2008, which mostly consisted of busking, with a few gigs thrown in along the way.

After a few months busking round Europe, I then joined a band called Naymedici, playing a raucous brand of gypsy-irish folk. We were described as ‘the bastard child of The Pogues and Gogol Bordello’ in one review, and Irvine Welsh said we were ‘f***ing on it!’ which is probably one of the best reviews we ever got! In Naymedici, we were lucky enough to get on the UK Festival scene, playing a headline slot at Y-Not Festival one year, and also other great festivals like Kendal Calling and Spirit of Folk.

We released a few singles during this time, including ‘Paddy McGee’, ‘Koo Koo The Bird Girl’, ‘Whack Fol The Diddle’ and ‘Men and Women’ and were featured on BBC 6 Music, E4, MTV UK, MTV Europe and MTV International. Not bad for a DIY Band with no management!

The band moved to Ireland, where we tried to make a go of playing and gigging full time. We managed to play some great places here, like The Crane Lane in Cork, and the famous Whelan’s in Dublin, whilst living in a lovely beachside cottage on the coast of West Cork. It was during this time that we undertook a tour of Europe, playing in cities such as Berlin and Prague among others.

Everyone in the band all moved on to different things in 2014, and it was time to begin the next project. I formed The Lucky 15’s, an Irish Party Band, with a great bunch of talented musicians I knew from various other bands in Manchester. We mainly play covers gigs at Sporting Events, Corporate Gig and Weddings, and have a wide repertoire of both Irish songs and classic pop songs too.

During this time, I was still developing my songwriting, and released my debut solo album, ‘You Can’t Take It With You’ in 2017.

Over the years, my music has been featured on:

  • BBC Radio 6 – Tom Robinson Show
